In year 1986 Suzuki Company established it’s plant for the production of automobiles in Pakistan, It’s known as Pak Suzuki Motor Co. They came up with economical Car, Suzuki FX, Since it was already being imported from Japan, Now it was assembled here in Pakistan of which 30 percent parts were manufactured here and 70 percent were imported from Suzuki Japan, 800cc , 3 cylinder petrol engine, 4 passenger 4 doors, front wheel drive, manual transmission 4 speed gear box with and without air conditionerfitted, made a good sale, at that time it was only smallest car on the road with very pretty good fuel average. later in 1989,
Pak Suzuki launched a new model as Suzuki Alto, which later on became Suzuki Mehran, 5-Door Hatchback, 4 doors + 1 trunk, manual transmission 800cc, 3 cylinder petrol engine. Since than till now production is on going, no matter what has made thousands of changes for the safety, but this car is a toy out of a joy, cruise 130-140 if you’re luck kilo meters per hour, since 89 till 2011, God knows better how many been manufactured here, but here I tell you my experience with SUZUKI MEHRAN.
I ) After learning driving on DATSUN 12oY london Model, I got this car, not knowing anything about safety and brakes nor engine, I used to drive like I am driving a mustang, even I went for Pakistan Tour in Suzuki Mehran till Pak China Border crossing Karakorum highway, thou it was dangerous but so excited and car was and still is my passion.
well I made it back home safe. but later as time passed I started opening the parts of this car myself and do the inspection, when I opened the front wheel, saw the disc and tie rod I was amazed to see that only 4 bolts are keeping both wheels in same direction and this rod is fitted with 4 bolts, than I saw behind the wheel the engineering, I saw the Ball joint In the graph on the right it has 2 ball joints to keep the wheel intact, but in suzuki Mehran there is only lower one, which easily gets out if the tyre bumps up and down above normal speed like 80 to 100 kmph there are chances the ball side of it gets out and wheel turns which could cause major accident.
So It is my advise to those who own the vehicle, get the hole done in between so you can insert nail and curve it, from 50 to 80 percent less chances that it may get out.
ii) Rear wheels are controlled by drum brakes and rear suspension is Leaf Spring, so it can take the load easily but very difficult to handle if once out of control. where as front is strut, coil spring, I did not had any accident in this car but I have seen the worst accidents, since it is economical now it’s also coming with 50Kg CNG cylinder in the trunk, car is economical but for safety I don’t think this car ever passed any Safety Tests. Be cafeful, emergency brakes at times Dis-balance the vehicle, and normal brakes are not as good as you think they should be, again over here in brake system alternation is required. by changing rear drums with disc brakes.
Here is an Images of Suzuki Mehran with got accident at the speed of 80 – 90 kmph
This is just an example, still it is in production in Pakistan after 22 years in a row same shape no changes and just getting price higher than every time and Pak Suzuki says Solution for your Family? I call it Coffin of wheels, not a single thing in this car is good nor tested, but hot seller of all time in Pakistan just because, Import was banned by the government after their got handsome bribe by automobile manufactures in pakistan. at present ( Toyota , Pak Suzuki , Honda ) are leading companies but do you know how much this toy which has no features and no safety measurement cost : 5 lacs 60 thousand rupees and no doubt driving this vehicle above 70 / 80 kmph is insanity. 5,60,000 and there you go, you got A COFFIN ON THE WHEELS
My Views are my personal, If anyone likes love this, It is never to hurt anyone but to get the truth its better to buy used vehicle than buying SUZUKI MEHRAN.
