As NADRA’s official social media rep, I would like to clarify some points discussed in this post.

First, the author hasn’t taken NADRA’s views while creating an article on one of our products. As professional journalists, it is our moral obligation to seek the stance of the entity before criticizing it.

Second, the Smart National Identity Card doesn’t come with a SIM, but a chip. The chip can store information, such as driver’s license info, educational and medical details, and more. However, the chip is only activated when it is processed through a one of designated card readers. Additionally, the info accessible at the card reader is only limited to the level of access granted to that entity. So for instance, if in future, we integrate the Smart card with say driver’s license and you go to get some data in your driving license modified, you will have to process the smart card through one of the card readers at the Traffic Police department. However, the level of access we will grant to the Traffic Police department will only be limited to the driving information. Other details, such as educational and medical info will not be accessible at that card reader.

This means that the card does not act like a GPS in your pocket, NO!

Third, the applications/utilities/benefits of smart card are LIMITLESS. Starting off, senior citizens can draw their pensions in hassle-free way. Grants, aids and zakat disbursement can be carried out in transparent manner to the rightful beneficiaries, reducing corruption as the card will eliminate human intervention during the process. MOST IMPORTANTLY, free and fair elections will be possible as there is zero percent chance of fraud/card tampering.

Fourth, NADRA charges fee for Smart technology because it comes at VERY HEAVY PRICE FOR US. The launch of this technology has been nothing short of a dream turned into reality; this deserves a celebration, and we at NADRA are tremendously excited about it. Just to set the record straight, countries like UAE are charging around AED 300 (approx. PKR 8000) for Emirates ID, and have even made it compulsory for expats settled in Dubai and other emirates to apply for one. In Pakistan, you get a Smart ID for as low as Rs 1500, and it’s not even compulsory to apply for one. The manufacturing and maintenance cost of Smart card is high, which explains the high cost to users.

      • Thanks for the explanation i appreciate your comments it is for the first time nadra person viewed well don’t take it personally but i have other questions related to nadra which are useful for all if explained and this is my blog the site is http://www.incpak.com where i did not publish this.

        Thanks Rizwan

    • yet the terms and conditions are not even the site, and your talking about media, why media would bark they are getting their bone by GOVT OF PAKISTAN

  2. Next time, they would fit a chip in our asses, so the security forces can take a laser aim at our rears and make all this process of eliminating the poor easy. This government should rename itself as the Nazi Pakistani Party

    • HAHAHA ….. lolz. Doctor I m not if anyone made a mistake to go for it , it would ” you can check out anytime you like ….. but you can never leave ”
welcome to Prison of Pakistan ….

  3. I don’t get it… all of the things you mentioned above, are just as baseless as it could be….

    [QUOTE]
If you haven’t paid a single utility bill, accounts may get ceased/ Halt RUN FOR YOUR LIFE
    [UNQUOTE]

ok, so you think it shouldn’t be this way? you should be allowed not to pay bills you owe, and run-off… wow…

NO PRIVACY? wow…what’s there to hide? yr fingerprints? 😛 or your face picture which is already there on yr body! lol…i just don’t get why u r so reluctant abt it? are u Osama’s second-in-command? 😀 relax dude!

did CNIC failed? err… howcome? what is this statement based on? failed as in HOW? NADRA hosts world’s largest biometric database, and we should be proud of it… (NO, i do not work for govt. or NADRA for that matter)

and bro, it’s not mandatory to get SNIC made, u can keep yr CNIC for as long as it doesn’t expire. In fact, they are still making CNICs… it’s only optional, and if you believe you need more data laden card, as they plan on including yr creditcard/atm card data, driving license, etc on the same card in future…

As far as USA is concerned, heh… they got many obsolete IT things going on, so puh’leeez! give it a break. STOP making mountains out of nothing, not even a mole-hill. GPS in pocket???? powered by WHAT? 😀 there’s no battery in it. like, can there be anymore paranoia anywhere as in your mind? You can live with your expired CNIC? good for you. DO IT 🙂 stop criticising advancement ‘cuz u r just too paranoid. We have already lagged far behind in 3G and LTE cuz of this … so…give it a break… and be proud of something for once.

    • Dear Usman

I get monthly water board Bill okay , where as there is no water connection in my building, Now tell me what should I do
Leave my work and run after water board and ask them why are u issuing this Bill well if you are interested in paying for what you are not getting , GO ON get it .

GPS in your Pocket , Ask somebody from KSA you will know why I mentioned NO PRIVACY ! seems like you are in favor I am not the one to stop anyone dear , you have a right, but personally I am not in favor of it .

NADRA is worlds or Universe’s Biometric system, let me be specific , Kindly see it as I am seeing this, This is a new way of corruption and nothing more than make each one accountable, now if you have any doubts or in favor that is your choice , we have right to express I did , so as you , U THINK DRONE STRIKE ON BATTERY POWERED GPS , Well kindly google first and understand what CHIP is . I am too busy in working I am proud of being Pakistani but Injustice I don’t favor at all, personally we shouldnt have any disputes yes my CNIC is expired and I will go for it as CNIC but never for Smartest Card ever introduced in this world .

Thanks for Writing and I appreciate your comments , CRITICS are always welcomed 🙂

      May Allah Bless you ,

      Farhan Imaan

      • GPS in a pocket is a little mis-leading term , i have worked for a chip card vendor. Chip card have their own processors/power/os and that OS is started when a chip card is inserted in a chip card reader. So practically you cannot keep on transmitting GPS co ordinate with chip being in your pocket.

Being associated with technology industry for a while i simply fail to understand the claims made within this article , I would suggest you to read out how these technologies works.

However i do agree with the fact that their is no need of Smart NIC at this point in time i would say that they should rather invest more in computerizing the election polling rather then playing around with CNIC. 🙂

      • Thanks dear for the information I am not technically aware of chip technology but I do know why Pakistan came up with this ! I agree with you
they should have came up with computerized election polling system , indeed whats needed is ignored !

    • yes Mr Usman you are right , we are step in a global network of IT. if we promote that, we are against SNIC then never forget that , we have cell phones in our pockets , we tracked easily through telecommunication. why we hide, we are responsible and honest citizens.

  4. My ID card says that it will expire in 2013. No month or date is mentioned. Will I have to make a new card in Dec 2013 or Jan 2013?
This new smart ID card, will it be compulsory for everyone or will we have a choice to opt for it or the old computerized one?

  5. you are misguiding people… that’s great if they can track people by that gps chip(lolz we would charge its battery every day…. ) obviously you won’t be ceased if you don’t do any wrong…. but for notorious people definitely its not the best of the options…. you don’t pay bill and you don’t want to be asked about it…great isey kehtey hain chor ki darhi me tinka…. by the way cnic is free even if there is 300 rupees fee its not that much as you people don’t pay tax how it could be free…. you need a topic to write nothing else… your article is not based on facts you simply exaggerated every thing…

  6. Your post went horribly wrong. You don’t know nothing about chips. Its not tracking chip, no gps blah blah; no taxes; Govt. is not after you. But Govt. is trying to make your card even smarter. It will authenticate your card. Previously, there are doubt that cnic is orginal or fake, it can by easily tell through your cnic embed chip which store your Private key ( i guess you didnt understand) . It will will identify your card as orignal as well as authenticate you that you are who you are, once it is tested in machine. Not for any other purpose. Secondly, your card is now in both urdu and english. It can be use both locally as well as internationaly. or in certification exams where you need to use passport. Because CNIC was not in enlgih.

One disadvantage is that cnic is valid of 10 years. The chip wil become chocolate chip.. coated with black carbon. There is nothing you can do about. t will not going to give the same look as it previously do.

YOUR POST IS A BLUFF. YOU HAVE WRITTEN ALL THIS BLAH BLAH IN ORDER TO GET GOOGLE ADSENSE rewards. It is not ethicaly correct.. So tell me how much google money have you made this month. It all $$$$$$$$$$$$$ is talking. not NADRA!!!

    • 1. THERE IS NO ADSENSE HERE OPEN YOUR EYES ! WAKE UP lolz.
      2. I POSTED MY VIEWS YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO AGREE AND DISAGREE !
      3. Before you blame bla bla bla bla , Kindly Google it
      4. I am not the one to issue to Ban it, you have a choice make yours 🙂

Next time dont blame for making money because I have kept this blog totally FREE !
if you can compete be my RIVAL !

      May Allah Bless you .

      FAREE

      • Farees i am totally in ur favor coz i have studied the same issues and having a little bit knowledge. those who dont know anything kindly sit calm and search.
        Bloody DAJJALI TRAPS

  7. I am dis agree with Farhan we should support NADRA. Smart Card Is a 3rd Generation Chip-based identity document that is built according to international standards and requirements. The card has over 36 physical security features and uses latest encryption codes making it the safest card in the world..
furthermore i must tell you that NADRA is the only department who control fraud the best example is BISP , and Watan Card.
as u said NADRA issue the cards non national u must know that too NADRA canceled many non national cards and NADRA is issuing cards on the basis of verification of local administration and civil govt employs.
The world best and largest IT organization. you know that CNIC is in normal category is free of cost and the NADRA mobile van go door to door for registration. I must Mention that NADRA is still baby organization and its need more time to mature.
my dear before CNIC the people issued many cards for one person and did fraud on that cards.

I hope you understand my thought.

    • there is nothing like that. SMART Card ek New technology hai aur Jo chor nahi usy kis cheez ka darr aur agar hum GPS ki baat karty hain to wo tu har ek k jaib main already mobile phone ki shakal main mojud hai.
ya sirf afwaien hain aur kuch nahi .

      • actually I m not afraid or My Smart card I m Just making a joke of the Author
It is very easy nowadays to make people harass. by only writing a blog with meaning less sense he is not actually raising his voice but he is only making noise.

  10. farhan you are totally wrong first check Hong Kong ID Card, Swedish, Malaysian, Qatar ID Card, UK ID Card, even India has Smart Identity Card and many more then how could you say that it is drama and only for collecting more money to fill their pockets first check your renewal, my own Id card has an expiry date of 2022 and also for you kind information their is no fees for fresh CNIC, My own card didn’t cost me even a single rupee. If they have any such intentions to make money then they should kept the renewal period not more than 2 or 3 years such as in Europe. please think as an educated person not like educated illiterate. this card has no such kind of GPS. GPS needs access to satellite, how it could do as it has no battery or cell to made contact with satellite, let us suppose it has GPS, it will attack only those who have done something wrong as a true Pakistani no drone will attack you as I personally have experienced I am from FATA. as far as tax is concerned then 32 lack people in Pakistan didn’t pay taxes if they want to pay only 40000 tax as per FBR Scheme then Pakistan could get rid of American Debt and IMF Debt and will continue its journey to its bright future. please don’t think that I am and agent of Nadra, I am student of B.A (Hons). please think wide, evaluate both positive and negative aspects. Thanks alot.

Last, as Pakistanis, there are many reasons to be proud of NADRA. We’re merely 10 years old, but our achievements speak for themselves. We have a team of the most brilliant minds serving the nation. We have won more than 5 international projects, which include ID registration system for Nigeria, Driver’s license for Bangladesh and more. We have won ID Outstanding Achievement Award and ID People Award. We have been listed among world’s top 50 passport and auto ID suppliers successively for more than 5 years. The list goes on and on.

  12. Just Google “how secure is chip and pin” and u will get the answer. In UK the so called smart cards are for foreign nationals only. Please google why UK abololished the multi billion dollar smart card program for UK nationals and this time you will get some thorough and impartial insight. If I were a NADRA rep I would def claim it to be the best solution ever. More transactions mean more revenue for my organization and why would I oppose that?
I know a couple of guys who have more than one NADRA CNIC for the last few years! We really need to sort that out first. Nothing more to say I suppose.
    Sincerely

    • NADRA rep answered i would have asked him the same thing you mentioned multiple cnic and its not to provide facility but nailing people 1500 x 180 million WTF, are we citizens of slaves?

I am anti fooling innocent people where the actual means are different.

      Total crap drama

      • WTF ????? 😦 don’t be offencive .. calm down .. i know u have got nice dictionary too, in ur brain 🙂 try to use that one… Peace 🙂

  13. NADRA,,,,,,Bnday da puttar bn.
My wife applied for SNIC at Sh. Qaideen Ex Centre, my brother visited to take delivery after providing his identity. NADRA office said only HERSELF or HER HUSBAND can receive SNIC. I think all NADRA people came from MARS or JUPITOR cz they don’t know how to deal with their valued customers. Stop treating like Govt departments, act in civilized manner. Think on logic why husband’s brother with receipt and CNIC can’t get relative’s SNIC? If you have the response, email me.

  14. What if someone looses SNIC ?? nd loosing SNIC means we’r lost 🙂 Dammnn .. !! nd NADRA processings 🙂 u guys know well. Obviously it’s Pakistan not UAE 🙂

      • years ago, i read in newspaper that nadra has shared all pakistani’s data to USA for checking criminal records.
Is it justice..? it means we aall Pakistaniiiis are openly shown to bloody USA .
hosh k naakhun lo mere bhaayyo, jiddat pasandi ye nahi k apne galay me phanday daal liye jaen..

  15. Though I did not read each and every comment, but I personally feel there is not need of of SNIC. I agree with the blogger it would be too much information in the Govt’s hand & a BIG hassle & pain for the common man. What Nadra says about its benefits is just making it appealing & it looks good in theory & maybe it would solve its purpose in the developed world but in Pakistan HELL NO. Where we as the nation are corrupt to the bone no matter what steps are taken the “OFFICIALS” will find a way to make the life of a common man as much MISERABLE to the best of their ability.
About other countries using this technology, well its same thing like follow the others…which we have been doing since our independence. We as a nation (if I can call ourselves a nation) have our specific, peculiar issues & problems & we have to find a “HOMEMADE” solution for it. Not look at others what they are doing, its about time we should stand on our feet, start using our brains & grow up.
In short, the govt can come with the smartest possible card but what we need is actions not publicity stunts.
I believe the ways things are going, may be by 2015 they will abolish SNIC & will suggest getting a microchip implant…which you won’t have to scan.
But the funny thing would be, it will expire after 8 years too..

  16. SNIC is harbinger. It’s too eraly in a country like Pakistan. We are facing electricity, gas and other utility issues. The Govt’ s persistence tendency of misusing any novel technology will ruin any benefit of this card. Good Ideas are always welcomed but only if they come in time and in order.

  17. bhai angrezi likhna seekh lou, phir aap aise analysis bhi likh lena…adsense k liye articles likhnay wali kaum..stupid article stupid analysis

  18. if I lose my nadra smart SNIC will I be able to get it back by tracking system? is the card traceable?

  19. Let me just share my experience. I applied for a “SMART” NICOP on April 11, 2013, under the Executive priority, paying PKR 1,000 extra, at the Aisha Manzil NSRC. The delivery day written on my receipt is “Within 10 to 12 days”. I just went to the NSRC to collect my card (as today is the 11th day), saw a really long line, and was told to wait in that line. I had thought that given my Executive priority, I wouldn’t have to wait in line. but, sadly enough, I had to. I left without obtaining my card, and I had a very busy schedule. The PKR 1,000 extra spent just went wasted. Would the media spokesperson for NADRA care to comment on this?

    • What you just shared If you can write it a little more I can share it on INCPak the only independent News Source from Pakistan which speaks ordinary people’s language and make it hear to the officials no other news group nor channel are interested in resolving our issues but I am committed to raise voice until these deaf / dumb and blind authorities dont hear write to me on incpak@gmail.com mention NADRA in Subject !

      Thanks for sharing

  20. Article by insane.. Jahil ki baat ka jawab na dena aqal ki zaqat hoti hai.. thats why not saying anything..

    • who told you to be serious lolx……..

Take It easy …… don’t let the sound of your own wheels drives crazy 😉 Eagles……

  21. i appreciate your article, i have lot of problems and paid lot of money to Nadra. i cannt understand that how my ID card took around 3 months although i paid money for urgent. it is the first department in the world that takes money for ID card cancellation, around 120$. Passports are issued for only 5 years and poor people have to pay again and again…..

  22. Whats the use of CNIC or SNIC when we still have to use photocopies of it everywhere whenever we want to use it. CNIC means we just needed to swap it where ever we have to use CNIC, but NADRA does not provides any such machines

    • this is the main point ,as the person swaps ,then booooooooooom
then later on there will be a news in paper ,TAALIBAAN KA SARGHANA DRONE ME MAARA GYA”

  23. look at the condition of education in Pakistan, a so called journalist, writer, poet blah blah blah…. can’t even write correct English while criticizing National Institute.

  24. asslam o alaikum
bhai koi yae bata sakta hae kay nadra kay id card ki delivery date online kis tarha track ho sakti hae mera card sumbit hae magar time confirm karna hae kab milay ga agar kisi ko maloomat hon to plz mujhay msg kar day
    jazakALLAH
    03009475964

  25. Even though the writer has been very blunt and personal I find him mostly correct. I have been two offices of nadra how they work and the idea of customer dealing or even work ethics are barely touching them. Very incompetent and am pretty sure most of these anti blog comments are from nadra officials.
